MEET THE TEAM
As dental students and future dental professionals, we are charged with the responsibility of maintaining the highest levels of honesty and respect for our patients, peers, and most importantly, ourselves. ASDA's Ethics and Professionalism Committee stems from the Student Professionalism and Ethics Association (SPEA). Our committee helps to promote awareness of ethical and non-ethical circumstances that affect the future of our profession.
What is Ethics?
There is so much more to ethics than the simple "right" and "wrong." There will be many times throughout your education and profession that you will come across circumstantial "gray" areas. These will be the times where you will have to make an educated decision utilizing your knowledge of professionalism and respect to do what you believe is best.

SPEA, the Student Professionalism and Ethics Association is a student driven organization committed to increasing awareness of ethical dilemmas faced within dentistry. With support from the American College of Dentists (ACD), SPEA works to encourage unity between the community of students, faculty, and staff at dental schools throughout the country.
ASDA's Code of Ethics
In 2009, ASDA published a White Paper on Ethics and Professionalism in Dental Education. It provides an overview of the state of ethics in dental education. The paper was reviewed in 2012 and continues to be a valuable resource offering solutions. The white paper was shared with the ADA, state and specialty societies, student dental groups and dental school deans.
