How do I get involved with BU ASDA?
All BU Dental Pre-doctoral students are automatically enrolled as ASDA members. To get involved, keep an eye out for our bi-annual committee applications that go out in the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. What is #asdafever?
You'll hear the term ASDA fever frequently from our chapter leaders or national leaders, but we're often asked exactly what it is. Mostly a phenomenon, ASDA fever is hard to describe, but essentially is an uninhibited passion for involvement in our organization and organized dentistry. The only true way to know what ASDA fever is, is to experience it!
What is the structure of ASDA?
ASDA exists on three main levels: national, district and local. BU ASDA is the local chapter for BU Dental. BU ASDA then belongs to District 1, along with Tufts, Harvard, UCONN and UNE. A total of 11 districts make up ASDA National. Each local chapter is represented on the national level by their 1st and 2nd delegates, comprising what is the House of Delegates. Our local chapter's members include all BU pre-doctoral students, all of which are eligible to partake in ASDA events and apply for committee member, chair and Executive Committee positions.
When can I buy BU ASDA apparel?
Traditionally ASDA Apparel Sales occurs once in the fall and once in the spring. If you have any questions regarding a purchase, please contact our Fundraising Chair or Vice-Chair.
When do Committee applications go out?
Committee applications for incoming D1 students go out early in the fall semester. At this time all pre-doctoral students are welcome to submit committee applications as well. The second application cycle occurs early in the spring semester, where student reapply to remain in their committee or can change to another committee. The spring application cycle is also when students who would like to be considered for Executive Committee appointments will apply.
How do I attend a National ASDA Conference?
There are three annual ASDA Conferences. The National Leadership Conference is held every October in Chicago, IL. This conference focuses on personal leadership growth and development. Annual Session is the second national ASDA conference that takes place every Spring. This conference features the House of Delegates as well as collaborative events for ASDA chapters across the country. The the third conference, National Student Lobby Day, is held in Washington D.C. and allows students to meet with congressional leaders to discuss current topics that influence our profession. Every year, one ASDA chapter is rewarded with the ultimate Gold Crown Award, the "Ideal ASDA" award. This is given to a chapter that encompasses all the values of ASDA along with providing it's members with resources, activities and information to enrich their dental school experience.
