Get to Know the 2017-2018
Executive Committee
Our five passionate and dedicated Executive Committee members spread the ASDA fever through the local, district, and national levels. If you see our EC members in the hallways, don't forget to ask them all about ASDA!
President/1st Delegate
Lindsey Janof, DMD 2019 Hometown: Trumbull, CT...now Brooklyn, NY Hobbies Outside of School: The one thing I love more than anything is hockey (let's go NY Rangers!!!!). I absolutely love living in a city that loves sports as much as I do (even if I'm a New York sports fan). It's always fun to go to a BU hockey game or just watching a game after class with a friend. Another thing I like to do outside of school, is hang out with my dog Leia! I always joke that she is an honorary BU ASDA member and the face of BU ASDA. How She Caught the ASDA fever: Being paired with my big sister during my first year orientation really opened my eyes to how instrumental ASDA can be in my dental school career. With her guidance, I couldn't wait to get involved and become a leader myself! I hope I can pass down what I have learned from her, and through my time at BU ASDA to foster new leaders just as excited about ASDA as I am! Favorite ASDA Event: ASDA Annual Session 2017. Annual Session is a great way to connect with ASDA members all across the nation. Specifically, I loved sharing ideas and goals with our District 1 chapters. Getting to know the schools around us, makes me excited to not only work with them, but complete our goals together as a team. I can't wait to see all the amazing things each chapter and their leaders will accomplish this year! |
Vice-President/2nd Delegate
Taylor Paek, DMD 2020 Hometown: Clarksville, MD Hobbies Outside of School: I love snowboarding and shopping for Christmas presents and decorations all year round! Two reasons why winter is easily one of my top 4 favorite seasons. How She Caught the ASDA fever: After meeting our chapter and attending NLC, I had the chance to see the positive impact that ASDA has on a local and national level, which really spoke volumes to me! Favorite ASDA Event: Annual session was last week, and everyday I wish I could go back! Having the opportunity to vote on resolutions and national leaders was surreal and inspiring. I am extremely excited for this upcoming year, and cannot wait to use what I've learned to do my part in moving our chapter forward. |
Legislative Liaison
Asia Yip, DMD 2019 Hometown: Westford, MA Hobbies Outside of School: I wish I had something cute to say but truly my #1 love outside of school is eating. My friends know I'm having an off day if I ever refuse the chance to grab a bite. Cooking is also a great compliment to my first love; it gives me such an outlet from all the stresses of dental school. How She Caught the ASDA Fever: I knew I wanted to get involved when I got to school, but I wanted to find the right fit! Once I sat in on my first advocacy meeting, I was sold. It was incredibly energizing to see how much passion my peers had about changing the landscape of our future profession. Favorite ASDA Event: I loved attending the 2016 National Leadership Conference. It was a long weekend, but so eye opening. I learned all about how to improve myself so that I could become a strong leader in ASDA and beyond. Attending events outside of dental school truly help in the development of a well-rounded clinician; I am so fortunate to be apart of an organization that supports this pursuit. |
Treasurer
Bart Knowles, DMD 2019 Homewtown: Lake Orion, MI Hobbies Outside of School: When Bart's not buried in books and Remo wax, he likes to keep busy volunteering with the BU ASDA Community Outreach Committee. He is also a member of the BU Dental Jawbreakers (BU Dental's outstanding Intramural Hockey team!). How He Caught ASDA Fever: Bart caught his #ASDAFever during his 1st year orientation, after hearing about how ASDA allows students the opportunity to shape the future of the dental profession, he immediately knew he wanted to jump into the Advocacy Committee so he could make a difference! Favorite ASDA Event: His Favorite ASDA event attended thus far is definitely this year's 2017 ASDA Annual Session. At Annual Session Bart was able to connect, exchange ideas and form friendships/bonds with other ASDA members from all over the nation. He can't wait to hopefully attend again next year to catch up with his new friends and exchange further ideas to build a better future for dentistry! |
Secretary
Christine Chiao, DMD 2019 Hometown: Sudbury, MA Hobbies Outside of School: I like to try new restaurants around Boston, bike around the city, and traveling. I also like to read... I just finished When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanthi and I'm currently reading Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche. But my favorite of all time is Harry Potter! How She Caught ASDA fever: Inspiration from all the amazing people in ASDA! We as students are what drives our profession forward, and ASDA offers so many opportunities for us to help shape the future of dentistry. Favorite ASDA Event: This year's District 1 Debate was really interesting and raised a lot of thought provoking questions! Its always great to see what are some trends and issues that are going on in dentistry and in dental education, because these are topics that will directly affect us in a few years. |
